How To Draw Brick Wall With Graffiti

Exposed brick is a designer favorite for adding character to any space, but unless a watchcase factory or brownstone is in the cards, installing a brick wall can break a budget—not to mention a lease. If you aren't lucky enough to score architectural features without the markup, there's good news: You can install your own. Plus, it's easier than you might think.

The key is faux brick panels (at only $30!) that give the appearance of brick without the mortar mess. Bonus: Installing faux brick skips the dust and brick sealing process for a quick DIY that's ready to display in a day.

Materials

  • Faux brick panels
  • Nail gun
  • Baseboard
  • Saw
  • Caulk
  • Spackle
  • Level
  • Stud finder
  • Pencil

    Prep your wall

    1/4 in. x 48 in. x 96 in. HDF Kingston Brick Panel

Use a stud finder to locate the studs across the wall (usually every two feet) and mark them with a level for straight lines down the length of your accent wall. Then, line up the panels to fit, noting any cuts needed with a pencil. Make sure to mark any cutouts needs for outlets and switches.

Trim down the wood panels as needed and cut out sections for outlets and switches. If the panels stick out past the existing baseboards, remove them.

    Install the panels

Line the panels long the ceiling and use a nail gun to secure them to the wall along the marked stud lines. If you don't have a nail gun, liquid nails work too. Cut excess panels to fill any space towards the floor as some boards will be shorter than ceiling height.

Once your panels are up, caulk the seams to unify the panels. Apply spackle to cover caulk lines and across each panel to blend the panels into existing walls. Sand spackle down for a clean look, or leave textured for an exposed finish.

Install new baseboard with a nail gun to the bottom of the panels. If your panels are too thick, carve into the existing baseboard to better fit new boards flush against the wall. Let dry before repositioning furniture.

And voilĂ —a textured, historic look in no time.
