CES 2022: Innex Brings Game Boy Back With Super Retro Boy

Innex's retro gaming brand, Retro-Chip, has been making erstwhile-school gaming gear for years. Information technology nearly recently released the the Retro-Fleck Generations, an eight- and 16-scrap game organization reminiscent of the NES Classic Edition.

While it had that quirky potential but is bogged downwards with mushy controls and poor HDMI video output.

CES 2022 BugIt is somewhat disappointing, but information technology likewise a real stumble across a library of some bang-up retro gaming boons, similar USB versions of classic game controllers and cartridge game systems like the Super Retro Trio.

Innex is working on a new generation of retro devices and information technology might have learned its lesson from the Generations platform and figured out how to meliorate upon the very good Super Retro Trio cartridge-based system. The company showed off several new retro game systems at CES 2022, including the Retro-Bit Generations Portable, the Super Retro Boy, and the Super Retro Trio Hard disk.

The Retro-Bit Generations Portable is a handheld version of the Retro-Fleck Generations. I tried out a paradigm and while I couldn't confirm if Innex fixed its rendering issues, like splotchy graphics due to a terrible Hd upconversion system, the direction stick and face buttons on the device felt tighter than the Sega Genesis-similar gamepad of the Generations.

Personally, that lone could turn the device from a disappointment to a salvageable experience.

The Super Retro Male child is even more appealing and it warms the cockles of my quondam-school gaming eye. It's a retro game system shaped similar a Nintendo Game Boy, with a colour, backlit LCD screen and the ability to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges. It features a rechargable bombardment with a micro USB port for charging, and Innex shared it can run for up to 10 hours. That's at least 8 AAs worth of Game Male child gaming.

Finally, Innex is giving the Super Retro Trio a much-needed upgrade. While we liked the system when nosotros first looked at it a few years agone, information technology's been eclipsed by HDMI-capable devices similar the Hyperkin RetroN five and Retro Freak. All the same, the Super Retro Trio will soon be able to output over HDMI at 1080p just like those other two devices via the Super Retro Trio Hard disk drive. It seems very similar in concept to the RetroN v, but any new game system that can play cartridges on modern TVs and make them look good are welcome.

Of class, that will depend on whether Innex can set up or replace the HDMI output problems of the Retro-Flake Generations when information technology releases the Super Retro Trio Hd.

Innex volition also be releasing a coffee tabular array that doubles every bit a retro game controller later this year, if y'all have United states of america$500 for that sort of thing.

For those who want to play games on the Super Retro Boy or Super Retro Trio Hard disk drive, y'all need cartridges. Innex has that covered as well, with three Retro-Bit x Jaleco carts. The 22-in-ane NES pack, the ten-in-1 SNES pack, and the 10-in-ane Game Boy pack characteristic multiple Jaleco games for their respective consoles. There are no Hd tricks in these cartridges; they're onetime-fashioned physical releases that will work in your original NES, SNES, and Game Boy equally well as Innex's systems.

The Super Retro Trio Hd ships in May with a US$79.99 retail price. The Retro-Fleck Generations Portable and Super Retro Male child come out in July for Us$69.99 and Baronial for Usa$79.99, respectively. The Retro-Chip x Jaleco cartridges as well ship in July for US$19.99 each.
